On September 30, the Royal Academy of Gastronomy will hold a special gala at the Teatro Real in Madrid to commemorate the 50th edition of the National Gastronomy Awards.
The first edition, held in 1974, recognized Juan Mari Arzak as Best Chef, Félix Rodríguez, from the Jockey restaurant, as Best Room Manager, Néstor Luján as Best Journalistic Work, and awarded the Special Prize to José Casamayor, from Hotel Real de Santander, and awarded the Guide du Gastronome en Espagne, by Raymond Dumay, as Best Publication.
Always at the forefront, throughout these 50 years the National Gastronomy Awards have recognized the professionalism of 54 chefs, 40 restaurant managers and 25 sommeliers. They have contributed to the dissemination of gastronomic culture by rewarding the work of more than 50 specialized journalists and more than 100 online and offline publications. They have distinguished the work of institutions and personalities that, through research, defend sustainable, healthy and innovative gastronomy. They have put the focus on young talents and have paid tribute to the careers of the great figures in the sector.
In total, 349 National Awards that summarize half a century of Spanish gastronomy, and much to celebrate.
