Spanish gastronomy: impact and trends of a key ecosystem for the economy

The Royal Academy of Gastronomy and KPMG publish “Spanish gastronomy: impact and trends of a key ecosystem for the economy”, a comprehensive report that quantifies the contribution of the gastronomy sector to Spain.

The report contains an exhaustive analysis that understands gastronomy throughout its entire value chain, from the primary sector to the hospitality industry, including processing and distribution. A journey that goes from the origin of food to the pleasure of enjoying it.

The publication compiles interesting quantifiable data for 2023, but also analyses trends, highlights weaknesses and detects growth opportunities. Thus, it highlights how the ecosystem associated with gastronomy contributed almost 375.000 billion euros to the Spanish economy in 2023, which means 27% of GDP; and also contributed to generating and maintaining a total of 7,2 million jobs, 37% of the Spanish labour market.
